My blog is one year old today! So I'm going to briefly stop and reflect on whether it's lived up to my expectations.

Overall, I would say yes. I stated a year ago that in the beginning, I'd probably post quite frequently; then when I had gotten my major preoccupations out of my system, my posts would be less frequent. And that has certainly been the pattern - daily at first, then tapering off gradually after the first month or two. But every month over the past year, there has been at least one entry and usually more. And I haven't run out of things to say, either - in fact, I have quite a backlog of NEW topics I want to introduce; and I also want to revisit some of the old ones.

There've been a few technical glitches. Recently, when I was almost finished writing "Recorders for Posterity", I realized that I had lost most of my work and needed to reconstruct it as best I could. I learned the hard way to save my work regularly and not rely solely on the "autosave" function. For a while, too, the date feature always seemed to be one day off, so if I needed it to be accurate, I had to adjust the date manually. There are many, many features of Dreamwidth that I have not explored - and that's just with a free acount. If I some day decide to upgrade to a paid account, I'm sure there would be even more features I could take advantage of. It was fun trying out "Read a random blog" and "Read a random community". I'm not really happy with how I've used the "Tags" feature; I guess as a librarian, I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to indexing, and I haven't met my own standards or expectations on that. On the other hand, it's fun thinking of suitable song titles to put in the "Music" field, as well as using the "Mood" and "Location" fields. I've done some editing of earlier entries, though probably not as much as I should have done. And I'd like to play around with a different arrangement of individual blog entries beyond the straight most-to-least-recent default.

So stay tuned, folks - and we'll see where Blogcutter's Café is at one year from today.
