Summer is typically a time for big outdoor events. Like the Casino de Lac Leamy Sound of Light fireworks competition in mid-August, in which various countries compete with each other to present the most spectacular show. Or the Hot Air Balloon Festival, which normally takes place over the Labour Day weekend.

This year, the organizers of those two big events have put their figurative heads together to arrange a one-night fireworks extravaganza to be launched from eight separate secret locations in West Quebec, the idea being that people across the region will be able to view - and very likely hear - the festivities from the safety of their front porch, balcony or window.

Below is a link to the Citizen article about the event:

Here is the CTV news feature about it, complete with maps... not sure if that means the sites are not so secret after all, or if the viewing ranges are broad enough that the actual launch sites remain a mystery, even for those familiar with the areas!

In any case, I find this a creative way to keep an event like this going, albeit in modified form. It also feels much more democratic than drive-in, drive-through or even online events, which tend to leave more disadvantaged populations by the curb-side.

It promises to be more than just another Saturday night!
