Philanthropic Phridays, Mayday Edition
May. 1st, 2020 11:10 amEven though some countries have their own specific date to mark Labour Day, the first of May has always been a kind of International Labour Day. So today, with so many people's work lives disrupted due to covid 19, I decided to direct this week's donation to the Workers Action Centre:
https://workersactioncentre.org/press/
There will also be an online hootenanny, "Songs of Protest, Songs of Hope" beginning at 7PM this evening:
http://gilshootenanny.ca
The large public sector unions, as well as CKCU community radio, are all involved in putting on this event.
Spare a thought as well for those taxi drivers still willing to shuttle people to do essential errands, even though Coventry Connections has apparently cancelled their insurance (meaning that the cabbies have to foot the bill themselves).
Spare a thought for tenants unable to pay their rent today or small-time landlords unable to afford basic upkeep of their buildings.
We shall overcome - some day!
