So we keep hearing about the "new normal" and how Christmas will look a little different this year, but what does that actually mean in practice for us and our families?

We still have a lot of the usual goodies around. This morning I made another batch of shortbread and a batch of pfeffernusse. My partner ordered some Girl Guide cookies (both the classic cream-centre ones that are normally sold in the spring and the chocolate mint ones that come out in mid-November). We have eggnog too, and I made Christmas cake back in November, which we sampled recently. Tomorrow I'll probably bake a couple of nut loaves too.

Then there's the tree. Normally we put it up in the living room. We usually want to maximize space in the dining room so we can fit some extra people in there for Christmas dinner. This year it will be just the two of us and the tree is in the dining room too so the room will not be quite so empty. That will be about the extent of the decorating although we do have a few cards we can display.

So yes, things will be a little different but the Covid grinch has not entirely stolen Christmas.
