Spring cleaning and spring greening
Apr. 26th, 2014 08:22 pmThis is rummage sale season. The challenge, of course, is to shed more unwanted items, in an environmentally sensitive way, than you acquire new things you don't want or need.
When I mentioned, in a recent entry, the list of books I'd acquired at a school book sale, what I didn't mention is that I had just recently contributed 2 cartonfuls of old books to the Experimental Farm for their annual booksale, to be held in June. So although I bought a shopping bag full of books at First Avenue Public School's booksale, it was still a lot less than what I disposed of a couple of weeks earlier. I still don't know, of course, what I'll wind up with after I shop the Friends of the Farm booksale in mid-June!
I also recently donated a couple of bags of outgrown (in-grown?) clothing to Value Village and received, to my pleasant surprise, a coupon for 30% off next purchase.
Then today, I put out a bunch of bottles for our local school band's bottle drive.
We did go to three sales today and I bought a handful of things, though nowhere near what I've been managing to divest myself of lately. I bought a turtleneck and another top for myself, for $1.50 each, as well as a couple of items of costume jewellery (a necklace and a bracelet) for $1 apiece. All three of the sales had some books there, but the selection was rather disappointing, which perhaps is just as well!
