I think the rise of the scheduled phone call is another interesting tidbit. For many people my age and younger, if nobody has been born or died, you might want to schedule that call rather than making them jump through the ceiling or send your call straight to voicemail. A call (phone, video, audio over the Internet) seems to still have value but it's so often pre-arranged via text.
