While I agree with what you have to say about the state of childhood and youth and that too much structure can be detrimental, autism in a child usually becomes apparent by around the age of 2 or 3, which is before they can be reasonably expected to be independent, so too much structure is unlikely to be the cause. Still it's a worrying trend (even though many autistics would beg to differ).
