As a youth, I read any and everything, Dad's rather small encyclopedias and the ones in the school libraries. Then, i enlisted in the Army and saw them selling encyclopedias in the PX, and financing them. Bought a set which thrilled dad. When i got out in '72, the set got to live with me and got used lots. I still have them, in storage, but the few times i've looked at them, much was out of date. Even so, they were and are the basis of why current events seem so idiotic. If you don't know a reasonable amount of history, you'll miss the context of happenings.
