I think a lot of this stuff is just Extreme Neoliberalism. I remember similar debates around, say, the Afrocentric school (but, notably, not around the queer school—I think because some of the people who weighed in on the Afrocentric school were just happy at the thought of those icky gays being away from those kids).

Like I'm not sure why NAC couldn't have, say, taken steps to address the very real barriers that Black people face when attending cultural events, such as generational poverty, by reaching out to Black communities directly with free tickets for a given night. I don't know. These things too often get set up as dichotomies when they aren't.

I always find it interesting, too, when the banned books list and the American literary canon overlap so heavily.

Anyway, you know my take on the Roald Dahl thing. :)
